Description of Twin/Double
- Most accommodation in Britain is charged on a Per Person basis (rather than per room basis). The price you see here for this tour is the Price per Person.
- If you request a Twin Room there are two single beds (usually 3 feet wide) in the room.
- If you request a Double Room there is one bed in which two people usually sleep (usually 4 feet 6inches wide).
- Both the Double and the the Twin room are sometimes available for Single Occupancy (one person in the room), usually with a supplement to compensate the provider who would normally have received payment from two people.
- If the accommodation offers Single rooms (one bed of 3 feet wide), this will normally be priced higher than half of a double or twin room. Unless space is limited in the village or accommodation we usually avoid these as the rooms tend to be older and less space to move about.
A five centre inn-to-inn, self-guided walking in Wales along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Dale to St. Davids in the Pembrokeshire National Park. 6 nights bed and breakfast accommodation, 5 days walking, luggage transfer, return to Haverfordwest rail station, guide book and maps.
Pembrokeshire, the Lands End of Wales, stretches its fingers far out towards the setting sun, a land of magic and mystery scattered with traces of bygone ages. Neolithic cromlechs stand on the headlands and Iron Age forts dot the hills, while St Davids mediaeval cathedral hides in its valley from the prying eyes of long-gone raiders. Here the coast is a birdwatchers paradise, where choughs and peregrines soar and guillemots and razorbills crowd on the cliff ledges. This Explore Britain tour in Wales follows the breathtaking twists and turns of the Coast Path.
This tour starts at the tiny village of Dale to pass Mill Bay, where Henry Tudor landed to claim the English throne in 1485. As you round the headland opposite the marine nature reserve of Skomer, keep a sharp eye out for seals and porpoises disporting themselves amongst the waves. Past the tiny harbours of Solva and Porthclais you reach St Davids, where Wales' patron saint founded his monastery around 500 AD and the warm purple stone of the cathedral still exudes an intimacy lost by grander buildings.
You stop in country hotels, inns and guesthouses along the way, where accommodation is available in twin, double or single rooms, most but not all with private facilities. B&B and luggage transfer between the overnight stays and return to Haverfordwest rail station is inclusive.
DAY ONE: Arrival at Dale. You may arrive anytime after 3pm. If requiring dinner this is usually between 7pm - 9pm both in hotels (booked in advance) and pubs. Overnight Dale, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
DAY TWO: Walking from Dale to Marloes. 11 miles (18km) and 200 feet of ascent. This is mostly along level cliff top, with a few small ups and downs. You round the sandstone cliffs of St Anns Head, then go out above Marloes Sands, with views out to the nature reserve of Skomer Island and finish at the guesthouse in Marloes. Dinner can be taken at either of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight Marloes, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
DAY THREE: Walking from Marloes to Little Haven. 8 miles (13km) and 250 feet of ascent. Today you are in and out around small headlands and sandy bays, all on a good coastal path. You finish the night at the guesthouse in Little Haven. Dinner can be taken at either of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight Little Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
DAY FOUR: Walking from Little Haven to Newgale. 7 miles (11km) and 700 feet of ascent. Today you are continuing on through Broad Haven and follow the coastal path northwards around Nolton Haven to the broad sandy beach of Newgale. You will telephone the Little Haven guesthouse from Newgale and they will arrange to collect you. Dinner can be taken at either of the pubs in the village (not included in tour price). Overnight at Little Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
DAY FIVE: Walking from Newgale to St Davids. 10 miles (16km) and 1,500 feet of ascent. You are transported back to Newgale. Today is quite hilly, so take your time to admire the dramatic coastal scenery. You pass the ancient port of Solva, now just a tiny village, and finish at the hotel in St Davids, where the atmospheric purple-stoned cathedral marks the spot where Wales' patron saint founded his monastery in 500 AD. Dinner can be taken at the hotel or any of the pubs in the town (not included in tour price). Overnight St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
DAY SIX: Circular walk around the coastline at St Davids. 11 miles (18km) and 500 feet of ascent. This is a circular walk from the hotel at St Davids around some of Britains finest coastline. Stunning views out to the island of Ramsey, secret coves, ancient sites, and (if you are lucky) seals and porpoises cavorting in the waves. You finish back at the St Davids hotel. Dinner can be taken at the hotel or any of the pubs in the town (not included in tour price). Overnight St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales.
